Levels, Projects, Courses And Issues Make All The Difference In Learning a Foreign Language

Welcome to the world of English at BBS Springe Springe Vocational College. English courses at Springe College are a whole world away from the old English courses of the past: We offer courses for all levels – from absolute beginners to intermediate level, from people with a sound command of the language to very advanced levels, from the practical daily-bread-and-butter-thing up to university entrance level, from down-to-earth English for the job to the ivory tower of academic proportions. There‘s something for everyone on offer – that’s why for the majority of our students, English rocks – although to some it may still suck: Learning a language still doesn’t come overnight. Come and join us for a trip around the world of English at BBS Springe!
Learning English at BBS Springe covers such a large variety of courses, approaches, projects, activities, and levels that it's hard to figure out how to start. Practically all students and trainees at Springe College will find English on their time-table one way or the other.

Some will take their first steps into the world of work, learning about office routine and secretarial activities, about drafting a decent business letter or talking correctly on the phone, about entertaining a visitor to the company or showing people around, about how to make travel arrangements or a hotel booking, about finding one's way or giving directions.
Others might embark on a trip around the English-speaking world, from the swinging streets of hip London to Ireland's green and rolling hills, from the deep waters of Canada to the wide open spaces of the American West, from Alaska's ice-capped ranges to the arid outback of the land down under.
Others again will apply their knowledge of English in special projects from the life of the Eskimos in Alaska to the problems of the multi-ethnic society of Australia, from the problems of growing up to caring for the elderly, from the upsides and downsides of the information society to a first look into the world of bosses, bucks, and business, from the problems of childcare to the role of the televison and the media, from drug abuse and youth unemployment to the world of advertising, from the issues of pollution and ecology to the daily life of single moms.

All our courses offer a practical and activity-centred approach incorporating role-plays and group sessions, presentations, discussions and team projects. First beginners will learn to survive, languagewise, in simple everyday situations. Intermediate students will widen their vocabulary, their listening, reading, writing and speaking skills, gaining a foreign-language command and communication skill which is particularly centred on their line of work.

Advanced learners will acquire discussion techniques and be able to follow issues of a more demanding nature. Courses cover an immense range of topics from historical issues to social welfare, from Elizabethan England to working with children, from Australia's penal past to teenage problems, from Braveheart's battles against the English crown to the heartbreak of leaving home, from the battlefields of the Indian Wars of America to the hardships of working women.

Advanced students especially those attending the college's "Fachgymnasium" business high school - will take their first look at literature, inviting them to the world of the short story from Poe to Hemingway, from Langston Hughes to Frederick Forsythe, inviting them to prose, drama, and poetry from the novels of Thomas Hardy, William Golding, Ernest Hemingway or David Lodge to the drama of William Shakespeare, Harold Pinter, Tennessee Williams or Martin McDonough, from the Elizabethan sonnet to the poetry of William Wordsworth, from the folklore of Robert Burns to the folksongs of Eric Bogle or the rock songs of Dire Straits or Bruce Springsteen.

Students at Springe College do learn a lot about the English-speaking world, about grammar and spelling, about interpretation and analysis, about idioms and slang, standard and colloquial English, about history and geography, the American president or the British monarchy, native and offshore English.

Students do learn a lot about the language, around the language and the countries where it's spoken. But in the first place they learn how to use it.
